Hayley Williams recalls learning that Paramore had won their first Grammy from a Taylor Swift text

This Is Why is the Tennessee band Paramore's sixth studio album, and it was released earlier this year, marking the band's return with a new album for the first time in seven years.

In an interview for Rolling Stone's Grammy Preview Issue, frontwoman Hayley Williams recalls hearing the news that they had won their first Grammy for "Ain't It Fun" from her close friend and Grammy favourite Taylor Swift.

"I was in Europe when I found out that we got nominated — could not believe it, had not sought to worry about whether we wouldn't be nominated, or we would be," according to Williams. "Then, once we had won it, we decided not to go. Within the same thirty seconds, I received a text message from both Taylor Swift and [band mate] Taylor York. Taylor, she just sent me a text message that was all capital letters, and it said something to the effect of "[random noises] so excited for you!" I could not believe it!

Williams referred to Swift as the "first industry friend I ever made"; the friendship was largely made possible by Swift's mother.

Williams reportedly told Jimmy Fallon on an episode of The Tonight Show that he and Taylor Swift "met because both of us — Paramore and Taylor — were nominated for Best New Artist the same year at the Grammys," Fallon reported Williams as saying. Williams is a member of the band Paramore.

"We were partying it up at some Grammy event; it turned out to be Timbaland's Grammy bash. She went on to explain its magnitude. "I was very nervous, but a woman came up to me and said, 'I'm Taylor Swift's mom, and just so you know, Taylor doesn't have a lot of friends her age who do music.'" And I'd love it if I could, like, you know, introduce you guys to each other or get your number'"

On the extremely successful Eras Tour that the vocalist of "Anti-Hero" has been on, Paramore has served as one of several opening bands; however, they will be the only opener for the European leg of the tour, which will begin in the following year.

"Ain't It Fun" is taken from Paramore's fourth studio album, which bears the same name, and it became the band's highest charting single, reaching No. 10 and earning double platinum certification. When "Ain't It Fun" won the award for Best Rock Song, Williams made history by being the first woman to win the award since Alanis Morissette in 1999. "Ain't It Fun" was co-written by Williams and York.

Despite the accolade, Williams stated that the band "got a lot of flack for not being as rock as those other people" in their category, which included Jack White, The Black Keys, Ryan Adams, and Beck. Williams was referring to the other artists in their category.

"But it also meant a lot to me when people said, 'You're the first female artist to win this category since Alanis,'" explained Williams further. "I felt really honoured and proud that Taylor and I wrote something that could be recognised that way."
